NEW SINGLE MARY JANE ON RADIO

“Mary Jane you’re such a story, dressed in rags and stripped of glory,
it’s funny how the time has stopped you.
It’s always in those April showers, when you’ve got nowhere to run to.
I see all the people, where do they go to, all the lonely people in the world…”

It’s official… The Screaming Jets second single from their highly acclaimed new album DO YA has just hit the airwaves across Australia this week. The new single, ‘Mary Jane’ was written about the plight of the homeless, the song is a more ballad-style offering than the first single ‘DO YA’ which was straight up ballsy rock.

Singer Dave Gleeson says the reason ‘Mary Jane’ was chosen as the follow-up to the title track single was because fans loved it. “Mary Jane is a really important song that I feel needs to be heard by as many people as possible,” he says. “The fact that the numbers of homeless people continue to rise, especially in the youth of today, is the reason we need to make sure people are aware of this problem. The biggest challenge facing society today, I believe, is getting people to think about things outside of their ever narrowing sphere of reality. The time to start taking notice of the troubles the world is facing, and do something about it, it right f***k’n now!”

The Screaming Jets are continuing to promote their new studio album DO YA – the first in eight years – around the country. And what better time to release a new single to radio than on the eve of their comprehensive Australian tour to promote the new album! It might have been eight years in the making between studio records, but The Screaming Jets are certainly making up for lost time. Apart from releasing the album, touring, and taking to the stage as part of the official pre-race entertainment at the Gold Coast Indy last year, the former Newcastle band kicked off 2009 with an even bigger bang!

They’ve just returned from a whirlwind showcase in America. Rockin’ the United States was something special for the former Newcastle band. Not only was it more than a decade since they trod on American soil, but the new album also featured some influence from music industry professionals in the States. DO YA was produced by The Screaming Jets and Scotty Kingman in Australia, but also included additional production in the US by reputable multi-award winning producer Stevie Salas (Daughtry, Jordin Sparks, Mick Jagger) and was mixed by Grammy nominated Juno award winning engineer Brandon Frieson. Even Grammy nominated MTV award winner Matt Sorum (Guns ‘n’ Roses, The Cult, Velvet Revolver) played guest percussion on the record.

Dave says the trip to Los Angeles and the showcase performance at The Key Club on the Sunset Strip was great. “The people we had working to promote us over there loved the band, and the show at The Key Club blew everyone away,” he says. “So we were really stoked with what we achieved there in such a short time.” The showcase was exclusive invite only, and some of the biggest celebrities in the States showed up to walk the red carpet and rock out with The Jets.

With their name synonymous with Australian rock, DO YA smashes The Screaming Jets back into the contemporary spectrum and makes music fans sit the f**k up and listen – Aussie rock is back! ‘Mary Jane’ hits the airwaves this week.
