AUSTRALIAN MONSTERS OF ROCK

The Screaming Jets, Rose Tattoo and The Angels

Anzac Day 25 April 2009

The Enmore Theatre

Anzac Day 2009 Sydney’s Enmore Theatre will play host to a Rock Royalty line up like no other as we bring together three of Australia’s biggest Rock legends to perform under the same roof on the same night for one night only.

The first of these Aussie rock legends to take to the stage will be THE SCREAMING JETS. After an extended hiatus between albums, one of the country’s most respected rock bands, The Screaming Jets came back in 2008 with their first studio release in eight years and without doubt, their best album yet. As "Do Ya" hits the stores and the first single of the same name smashed the airwaves, fans and music-lovers new to the Jets rockin' style were in for a real treat.

When The Screaming Jets took an indefinite break after their last studio album ‘Scam' in 2000, fans feared they've never get a chance to hear any new material from one of the hardest rockin' bands in the business.

Front man Dave Gleeson says the record is the epitome of what Australian rock is all about. Every aspect of the album was taken from a ‘rock' direction and the result is tight and clean with a good dose of driving guitars and rockin' percussion. "Do Ya" is the album The Screaming Jets were always destined to make. Like all of the classic albums that make up the band's back catalogue, "Do Ya" features Dave Gleeson's killer vocals and that core of true blue rock. Regardless of the different styles tackled on the album, from jazz to blues influenced tracks, when it boils down to it, the record is really just about rock.

Despite 17 years, 6 studio albums, (5 gold and 5 platinum), world tours, multiple line up changes and thousands of gigs later the dyin' day ain't here yet! They are survivors in an industry that eats it's own, and despite it all they are committed to their fans in a manner few could hold a candle too. The full bore, amps at eleven, kick ass rock that we love in this country.

In the category of cult bands Rose Tattoo has been at the top of the pile for years. The raw style of blues rock that these guys manage to create out of a hot mix of slide guitars, pounding hooks with sharp and tight rhythm along with the unmistakeable voice of the front man Angry Anderson is what gives the fans a welcome feast in what is today a fast food orientated music business. The best thing about Rose Tattoo is: The band can take a punch and are full of vitality; they put every kick in the face behind them and still have the energy to carry on and deliver a new quality product.

Their new album, Blood Brothers is not only a true to the time Rock n Roll album that mixes traditional and modern styles in a super high quality but is also a tribute to the band members Peter Wells and Ian Rilen who unfortunately recently lost their lives. In short: Blood Brothers is a manifestation of Rock n Roll of the strongest form, powerful, unrelenting and wildly uncompromising. With all this traditional influence they really are one of the most unusual rock formations in rock history.

Anyone who is familiar with The Angels music and their history knows they are not only one of Australia's greatest ever bands but one of its longest surviving. Since releasing their now legendary debut single ‘Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again' in May 1976, the band has gone on to enjoy an extraordinary career – through the release of a vast catalogue of recorded music and performing thousands of gigs over more than three decades.

Don't miss your chance to see Australian rock royalty in this special ANZAC day show.

NEW SINGLE MARY JANE ON RADIO

“Mary Jane you’re such a story, dressed in rags and stripped of glory,
it’s funny how the time has stopped you.
It’s always in those April showers, when you’ve got nowhere to run to.
I see all the people, where do they go to, all the lonely people in the world…”

It’s official… The Screaming Jets second single from their highly acclaimed new album DO YA has just hit the airwaves across Australia this week. The new single, ‘Mary Jane’ was written about the plight of the homeless, the song is a more ballad-style offering than the first single ‘DO YA’ which was straight up ballsy rock.

Singer Dave Gleeson says the reason ‘Mary Jane’ was chosen as the follow-up to the title track single was because fans loved it. “Mary Jane is a really important song that I feel needs to be heard by as many people as possible,” he says. “The fact that the numbers of homeless people continue to rise, especially in the youth of today, is the reason we need to make sure people are aware of this problem. The biggest challenge facing society today, I believe, is getting people to think about things outside of their ever narrowing sphere of reality. The time to start taking notice of the troubles the world is facing, and do something about it, it right f***k’n now!”

The Screaming Jets are continuing to promote their new studio album DO YA – the first in eight years – around the country. And what better time to release a new single to radio than on the eve of their comprehensive Australian tour to promote the new album! It might have been eight years in the making between studio records, but The Screaming Jets are certainly making up for lost time. Apart from releasing the album, touring, and taking to the stage as part of the official pre-race entertainment at the Gold Coast Indy last year, the former Newcastle band kicked off 2009 with an even bigger bang!

They’ve just returned from a whirlwind showcase in America. Rockin’ the United States was something special for the former Newcastle band. Not only was it more than a decade since they trod on American soil, but the new album also featured some influence from music industry professionals in the States. DO YA was produced by The Screaming Jets and Scotty Kingman in Australia, but also included additional production in the US by reputable multi-award winning producer Stevie Salas (Daughtry, Jordin Sparks, Mick Jagger) and was mixed by Grammy nominated Juno award winning engineer Brandon Frieson. Even Grammy nominated MTV award winner Matt Sorum (Guns ‘n’ Roses, The Cult, Velvet Revolver) played guest percussion on the record.

Dave says the trip to Los Angeles and the showcase performance at The Key Club on the Sunset Strip was great. “The people we had working to promote us over there loved the band, and the show at The Key Club blew everyone away,” he says. “So we were really stoked with what we achieved there in such a short time.” The showcase was exclusive invite only, and some of the biggest celebrities in the States showed up to walk the red carpet and rock out with The Jets.

With their name synonymous with Australian rock, DO YA smashes The Screaming Jets back into the contemporary spectrum and makes music fans sit the f**k up and listen – Aussie rock is back! ‘Mary Jane’ hits the airwaves this week.
